Job Description

NGH is recruiting for a Practice Lead for our Planning and Approvals team in Queensland.  This role is responsible for driving strategic growth and success of the practice by leading business development efforts, building and nurturing client relationships, and identifying new opportunities for expansion and implementing strategic business initiatives.

We are seeking an experienced consultant and technical expert who will lead and inspire a team of professionals to achieve high-quality project outcomes, while cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Practice Lead focuses on business development to expand the practice and ensure that team composition and service offerings are aligned with industry trends and corporate strategy.

This role is accountable for the performance and profitability of the team, proactively addressing issues or risks that may arise, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. With a strong commercial focus, the Practice Lead will manage and mitigate risks to safeguard the practice’s reputation, financial performance, and client satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Client Relationship Management: Strong ability to manage and nurture client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact (Key Account Management).
  • Business Development: Proven ability to identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Strategic Planning: Ability to contribute to and execute strategic growth and operational plans, aligning team goals with broader organisational objectives.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including scoping, planning, budgeting, risk management, and delivering on-time, high-quality results.
  • Networking and Stakeholder Engagement: Proficiency in networking, attending industry events, and expanding the organisation's visibility and presence in target markets.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and preparing end-of-month financial and performance reports.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge in relevant specialized areas to provide trusted technical advice and innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Archaeology or Heritage, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Management Consultant) are advantageous.

Ideal Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, key account management, and strategic growth within a competitive market.
